There’s often a keen sense of family among Mustang owners, and really members of the car hobby in general. While we may trade jabs about each others cars from time to time, when things are looking down those same friends are often the ones who help to pick us back up.

That sense of family is what sprang the the Mustang Mafia car club, of eastern Kentucky into action recently. One of their founding members, Cynthia Baker was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. As Cynthia underwent multiple rounds of treatment and more disappointing news of her condition, her brothers and sisters in the car club pitched in to give her car a substantial appearance makeover.

On December 24, 2012, the 1998 GT was presented to Cynthia with fresh paint in Speed Yellow with gold metal flake and graphics made possible by her Mustang family with the help of Kruiz N Kustoms in Stanford, Kentucky. There are custom graphics adding to the Sinister theme of the car, which include three ribbons, one for each cancer diagnosis, and a flag representing her winning spirit in fighting the disease.

While the car has some great looks, it wouldn’t be called Sinister without some performance upgrades as well. To that end the 4.6 engine has undergone a PI head swap, as well as the addition of a Typhoon intake manifold, plenum, and throttle body. Out back there are 4.10 gears to help get things going in a hurry as well.

Adding to the looks are a Cerviin Stalker Ram-Air hood, OE Concepts 17×8.5 front and 17×10 rear wheels, yellow HID headlights, and amber under glow lighting. Sequential tail lights round out the styling cues.

In February of this year the Baker family received bad news that the cancer was spreading and treatment would stop. Club members have told us that it’s been difficult to cope with, but that Cynthia has remained in good spirits throughout the ordeal.

We should all be so blessed with friends in this hobby who are willing to give so freely of their time and efforts to help out one another. We wish Cynthia all the best in her fight against cancer.
