Say it ain’t so Joe. Is there more truth to the popular thought that mainstream youth is more interested in video games and fantasy than real world pursuits like sports, racing, fast cars, and chasing girls? Combined with the current epidemic of teenage obesity, this ad I found on craigslist supports the speculation. The clean 1972 Gran Torino shown here is currently for sale because the owner’s son does not want to drive the car. What? When I was a teenager, getting my first car meant some semblance of liberation from my parents and the first step towards having a girlfriend. That alone was incentive enough to learn about building cars. At that time it was less about performance and more about making a wreck operable. Either way, my motivation could be easily traced all the way back to primitive urges tied into reproduction. I can only conclude one of three things about the teenager who doesn’t want the car:
1) He’s allergic to yellow
2) He’s a blossoming environmental activist
3) He’s not interested in reproducing
Whatever it is, just don’t tell me that 1972 Torinos aren’t cool anymore.
1972 Gran Torino – ONE OF A KIND
This car has been rebuilt professionally and gone through thoroughly. It has a rebuilt 351 Cleveland, transmission, top flight paint job, custom rims, duals, headers, new Edelbrock carb and more. Top of the line Kenwood stereo with twin 10-inch subs and i-pod hookup. Reliable cruiser that REALLY turns heads. Less than 4K miles on restoration, and has been mainly garaged since I bought it last year for my son. He does not want to drive it – and so I must sell it. No reasonable offer refused; I would like to sell this ASAP.
If you are looking for a great muscle car to drive that is still a civilized ride…here you go.
