Large orders are not uncommon at aftermarket parts supplier, American Muscle, but when a Miami man ordered almost $10,000 worth of product, the company’s Operations Specialist got suspicious. Because the shipping and billing addresses did not match, the credit card company and police were notified.
Transactions were traced to Miami Beach, where a city parking enforcement officer is now under arrest on several charges, including fraud. According to Miami Beach police, 23-year old Ramon Soler was on a ride-along with a police officer on February 19th, when the officer pulled over a driver on suspicion of DUI.
Soler admitted, during police questioning, that while a roadside sobriety test was being conducted by the police officer, he went to the suspect’s car and took a wallet containing credit cards and $500 in cash.
Later, Soler placed an order with American Muscle for a Hellion Twin Turbo System, Bama Custom Tunes, 3.73 gears and underdrive pulleys. Soler owns an early ’94 or ’95 Mustang, but it’s not clear if the parts were for that car or not. According to reports, Soler made a number of additional telephone purchases using the card that same day.
Solar phoned American Muscle after receiving an email saying there was a problem with his order. A recording of that conversation was turned over to police by the company, along with other evidence. Now relieved of duty pending the outcome, Soler faces with one count of grand theft, one count of burglary of a vehicle and four counts of fraud using personal identification.
Perhaps he’ll be able to request a catalog to be sent to his new address – the House of Many Doors.
