We’ve brought you coverage of the Bluegrass Super Shifters races from Thornhill Dragway on a few occasions. We also brought you the Coyote Pro Stock race from August at the same facility. Both of these events were organized by Tom Borgia, a Mustang and drag racing enthusiast, who loves stick shift drag racing.
Tom Borgia is a father of two, and a US Navy Veteran. This past Tuesday, Tom and his family awoke to a disturbing site at their home near Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The Borgia family’s garage was in flames. The fire completely engulfed the garage, and licked up against the Borgia’s RV, trailer, and race car which were parked next to it, doing considerable damage to them as well.
Most heartbreaking was the loss of Tom’s son Toby’s Jr Dragster. Tom had used the car as a project with 10 year old Toby his autistic. Just a month ago, Toby, got his first chance behind the wheel at Thronhill, his first exposure to drag racing. The experience proved therapeutic for the boy, and warmed the hearts of everyone at the track.
Tom is assessing the damage to his car today, and so far we know it needs wheels, tires, right side brakes, rear control arms, an MSD box, hood and windshield. The car has also suffered extensive body damage, and it leads us to wonder if Tom might be forced to start over with a new chassis.
Tom is a racer on a budget if we’ve ever seen one, and he could use some support from his Mustang and drag racing community. We’d love to see a few of our friends and fellow enthusiasts step up to help this racer, friend, and his family, in their time of need. We’d also love it if someone could step out and help with Toby’s Jr Dragster which is a total loss after the fire.
