Back in the mid-’90s, the 1995 SVT Mustang Cobra R dominated tracks everywhere. Albeit rare, only 250 units were produced all in white. To ensure that these cars were to be driven on track and not stowed away in some collection, a valid racing license was to be provided for anyone to get their hands on one.

Now you have a shot at owning a low-mileage SN-95 Cobra R, whether you have a racing license or not, thanks to the Avant Garde collection. Used as a pace car for the Portland Trans-Am race, this rare Cobra R had just one owner. The odometer reads a mere 2,911 miles. For a price of $29,900, anybody could own this mint, track-ready beast.

The track-ready 1995 Cobra R was given a 5.8-liter V-8 powerplant.

If you aren’t familiar with the ’95 R-model, it continued the success of the ’93 Cobra R. Ford engineers decided to make a version derived from the SN-95 Cobra. What was normally powered by a 5.0-liter engine was replaced with a re-engineered 5.8-liter Windsor small-block capable of 300 horsepower.

To help plant that power, a heavy-duty Tremec five-speed transmission was added, and creature comforts were thrown out the window for weight savings. No air conditioning, back seat, or radio came with the car, and for even more weight savings, the fog lights were taken out to provide ducts to cool off the front brakes.

To prep it for track duty, engineers added a 20-gallon, Fuel Safe fuel cell, along with heavy-duty springs, thicker sway bars and a front strut-tower brace for improved handling. Each Cobra R was given an exclusive fiberglass hood to clear the engine and induction system.
