The 35th annual Barret-Jackson auction took place in Arizona last month. Noteworthy amongst the $100 million worth of auctioned inventory was the sale of former Montrose and Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar’s 1967 Shelby GT500. Hagar pumped the crowd by offering to throw in free concert tickets, a signed guitar and a case of his Cabo Wabo tequila to the winning bidder.
The red and black striped Shelby (also nick-named the Red Rocker) fetched $250,000, a hefty sum but still short of a the $432000 commanded by an all original and unaltered 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Why Hagar was selling the car he called “A motorhead’s dream”, was unknown. The buyer of Hagar’s car, Mike Patak, is the owner of Mikes Classic Cars, LLC of Blair Nebraska.
