Gary Watson and his team at Creations n Chrome never cease to amaze us. Cranking out high end builds with stunning looks and performance to match CNC has become a household name for many enthusiasts.
I’m calling it vintage Top Notch. -Gary Watson
For two years Watson brought his ultimate Fox body Mustang creation Top Notch to the halls of SEMA, first in blue and then red. Both times the car garnered the attention of everyone who passed by. Now Watson and the CNC team are taking on a new project slated to make its debut at SEMA in 2015.
This time around the Creations n Chrome crew will be working their magic on a classic ’66 Mustang coupe dubbed About Time. The story of this ’66 project begins over a decade ago with an owner dropping of his project at another shop. 15 years later, the car found its way to CNC’s doorstep with a pile of parts and an owner looking for a shop with vision.
Slated to debut in the Nitrous Express booth at the 2015 SEMA show About Time will feature a bevy of performance parts and a familiar theme, “I’m calling it vintage Top Notch,” says Watson. While the car will have a Pro Touring vibe it’s specifically being setup for drag racing and standing mile competition. Thus the name is derived from the car’s intended purpose and the amount of time its taken to finish the project.
Watson and the CNC crew will completely transform this car with a full tube chassis underneath and wrap it in their own custom body work which will feature Maier Racing 1.75-inch wide body components just like Top Notch.
Drive-ability and reliability are at the top of the list of must haves.
In our conversation about the project Watson says, “Drive-ability and reliability are at the top of the list of must haves.” On that order the car will feature a SHP Dart block based 347 engine with custom internals and Dart Pro 1 cylinder heads. It will all inhale through what Watson describes as a “wild” custom sheet metal intake, and of course there will be plenty of giggle-gas from Nitrous Express on board to give the pony some added kick. Gear changes will come via a Tremec T-56 Magnum XL transmission and the rear end will be a custom narrowed nine-inch.
Fiercely loyal to his sponsors and suppliers Watson will once again turn to those who have helped on recent builds including, Nitrous Express, Holley Performance, HRE wheels, Falken Tire, Maier Racing, APR Performance, Wilwood and Design Engineering Inc. along with new companies like Accuair, MagnaFlow, BASF and Ring Bros. will all play key rolls in the build’s success.
We’ll be following the build of About Time as it progresses over the next year and look forward to its debut at the 2015 SEMA show.
