The presence of loud, noisy vehicles along the main street of Sturgis, SD, is not restricted to the annual motorcycle rally held there for the past seventy years. For the last four Labor Days, those same streets have been graced with the thunder of four wheeled vehicles as well, specifically Ford Mustangs of every variety.
It will all happen again this year in the famous Black Hills of South Dakota, as Mustang owners arrive from all parts of the country to join an extraordinary event, the Sturgis Mustang Rally, beginning with a Welcome reception and burnout competition on Thursday evening and finishing up Monday with a Mustang Rodeo.
In between, the whirlwind schedule can have you running in a Poker Run tour, participating in autocross competition, a launch box competition (that’s not lunch box), parades, a show and shine event, grabbing some hot laps, attending a Mustang auction, drag racing, an Awards Banquet and rolling the dice to win an SMS Supercars’ Mustang.
If you’ve got a few spare minutes after all that, you can also visit Custer State Park and Mt. Rushmore at your own pace. There’s a lot to see and do in this area of the country, at least if you driving a Mustang on Labor Day weekend.
Registration packages start from $40 and range up to $175 or more, depending on content. Online registration is available at the event web site.
