For many Mustang enthusiasts, no movie is cooler than Bullitt, and no actor is cooler than Steve McQueen. While none of us can ever hope to approach his level of awesomeness, if you’ve got about a million bucks just lying around, well you can live where this man lived, love where this man loved, and keep your cars in the same 4,200 square-foot hanger.
Urban Daddy reports that Steve McQueen’s Santa Paula, California ranch is up for sale, including a Victorian-style house and the aforementioned massive aircraft hanger.
McQueen was an enthusiastic motorcycle, car, and airplane fanatic, and he kept all of these toys inside his hanger. Also on the 15.5 acre property is a home built in 1892 with high ceilings, huge windows, and a porch with a fantastic view. McQueen moved to this ranch in 1979, well into his career and just a year before his sudden death.
Despite not having lived at the ranch long, the ranch in many ways epitomized McQueen’s remote sense of cool. He lived there with his third wife, Barbara Minty, and had a sizable collection of vehicles on the property. But the biggest draw for McQueen was being able to fly his yellow bi-plane and because the area reminded him so much of his Montana hometown. Currently owned by Bonnie Owen, it was listed for sale as recently as last summer for $1.75 million. We’re not sure why it’s been reduced in price so drastically, but we guess the California real estate market must still be in a slump. Which means this little piece of paradise can be yours for a veritable bargain of just $799,000.
