The racers of the NMRA‘s Strange Engineering Coyote Stock class have come together often to support one of their own, but word comes to us that they’ll be stepping up at the NMRA’s upcoming Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing to support someone they don’t even know – young Emilee Hurt.

Nine-year-old Emilee has Type 1 Diabetes, and her family has been racing to raise money and awareness of the terrible disease. The kind folks at Strange Engineering have stepped up to purchase a number of the stickers from Emilee’s family for the Coyote Stock racers to run on their cars for the duration of the event. The proceeds from any money that is raised go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The family has been dealing with Emilee’s disease since September 3, 2010, when she was initially diagnosed with the disease. She struggles immensely as her insulin levels drop overnight, meaning that her mother has to stay up at night to check it, then her father checks it again at 4AM when he wakes for the day, and it’s checked again by her mother at 7AM.

“Strange Engineering will be paying for the family’s travel to and from the event, and putting Emilee and her family up in a hotel and giving them tickets so that they can all come to Joliet and meet the racers. I will be handing out the decals to the guys on Thursday at tech, and Emilee and her family will be attending the race on Saturday, and possibly Sunday, depending on how Emilee is feeling,” says Crystal Bailey, Strange’s Field Marketing Coordinator.

Bailey has been instrumental in putting this together for the family, and since Emilee can’t be away from home for more than two days, it will be a lot of action packed into her short weekend.

From what Bailey tells us, Emilee is very excited to meet all of the racers who are supporting her, sight unseen.

We have also received word that a number of other NMRA racers who are not in the Coyote Stock class are also stepping up to donate funds, sport the sticker, and bring a smile to a little girl’s face. Par for the course in the family-oriented racing series.

If you’re interested in following along with Emilee’s progress, trials, and tribulations, the family has set up a Facebook page for Emilee’s Race For A Cure – head on over and check it out.
