This gorgeous machine under construction at Team Z Motorsports, is to be campaigned in Outlaw Limited Street at Milan Dragway in 2012. When we spoke to Team Z’s main man and car owner/driver Dave Zimmerman, he explained that the car was built with a 25.5 chassis, and originally slated for x275. However, Zimmerman has many customers in the x275 class that he didn’t want to be racing against, so the decision was made to move up a class. In addition, although the class permits a 29.5×10.5 or 315/60/15 tire, Zimmerman will be racing this car on the 275/60/15 tire.
The engine was built at Mike Curcio Racing Products by NMRA Hot Street standout Mike Curcio and his partner, Joe Shober. It’s a 380 cubic inch piece topped off with a set of Yates heads and is boosted by a ProCharger F-2 supercharger. Zimmerman has been working on this project for a couple of years, and it’s finally starting to come to fruition. He’s expecting the car to be ready for the Radial Revolution race at the end of February, as all of the parts are now on-hand at the shop save for a driveshaft that needs to be ordered.
Backing up the potent mill will be a Turbo 400 transmission, and a number of sponsors have stepped up to help Zimmerman campaign the car. Carl and Jason at Mickey Thompson Tires supplied a sweet set of M/T wheels, while Motor City Solutions supplied one of their carbon-fiber nose pieces for the car to help get some weight out of the nose.
Also, the car has been outfitted with the entire Team Z Motorsports catalog of suspension products and will be used as a rolling testbed for the company’s latest suspension products. On the car right now is a full set of Team Z’s indexed rear lower control arms, their upper-control-arm relocation kit, and a brand-new Team Z Motorsports 9” rearend housing. The front suspension features all of Team Z’s components as well.
