There are some people out there that want a Mustang, but also want something that hauls (no, not hauling ass). Instead of splurging on a pick up to park next to the ‘Stang in the driveway, some people have converted their Mustangs into trucks – an El Must-ino – or the real name being the Mustang Ranchero Sports Pickup by George Barris.
George Barris of Barris Kustom Industries has invented a fleet of memorable vehicles such as Knight Rider’s K.I.T.T., Bo & Luke’s General Lee, the Beach Boys’ Little Deuce Coupe, the Munster’s Koach and the Batmobile.
This Mustang Ranchero Sport pickups have aerodynamic properties that are supposed to resemble fastback styling. These limited specialty cars feature a stainless steel bed and fixed middle divider with a push button window. Not only that, but parts of the body have been changed; classic side scoops have been added along with functional right and left side exhaust. This Mustang also has shaker hood scoop panels, 17-inch Colorado Customs with flat free BF Goodrich self supporting tires, top/center insert brake lights, a stainless fuel door, and an optional air-lift suspension. It also gets some pinstriping treatment by Tom Otis.
These Rancheros are available in four colors and the convertible series comes with a detachable targa top, styled center arch, rear push button window and push button cover. Of course, there is one place where these were available, Galpin Ford in Van Nuys. Knowing those guys and their custom creations, they can still chop away at your Mustang if you’re going for a whole new look. There’s a price for everything!
