By now, Vaughn Gittin Jr. is a household name, being one of the premiere drivers in the Formula DRIFT series as well as the pilot of the famed Monster Energy Nitto Tire Ford Mustang. And based on his performance last weekend, its going to stay that way. That’s because for the second time in history, Gittin has thrown down back-to-back wins in the Formula D Series, taking his latest podium position just this last weekend in Miami.
Qualifying in second place, Gittin got a hot start to the third round of the 2014 Formula D season when some of the world’s most talented drivers descended on Homestead Miami Speedway for the Miami Heat event May 30th and 31st.
Though his qualifying position was amazing on its own, his third consecutive top-5 qualifying position this year, it was Gittin’s first-place finish following his first-place podium position in Round 2 at Road Atlanta that truly riled the crowds and Gittin fans across the country.
Gittin is the first person to score back-to-back wins in Formula D since he did so back in 2012.
“It feels really amazing to be here and come to a brand new track and work with my team to get my Monster Energy Nitto Tire Ford Mustang RTR on rails,” Gittin stated over the weekend.“To be able to hit every mark and be able to compete with some of the best drivers in the world feels awesome. Back-to-back wins is just amazing. We’re working hard and it just feels good that it’s paying off and I’m just pumped.”
Gittin’s second top podium finish this season has kept him in second place standings, following closely behind Formula D “Ironman” Chris Forsberg. Forsberg leads the field currently with 263 points, followed by Gittin with 253 points and Kenny Moen with 205.5 points.
With Gittin’s win on Saturday, he has helped put Ford in the lead for the Formula D OEM Manufacturer’s Championship and Nitto Tire in second place for the Tire Manufacturer’s Championship.
There are just four rounds left of the 2014 Formula D season, with the next race taking place at Wall Speedway in New Jersey the weekend of June 20th. Best of luck goes out to Gittin and his team for another season win!
