This weekend Vaughn Gittin Jr will get to try his hand behind the wheel of a a NASCAR machine. Gittin won’t be on NASCAR’s big time Sprint Cup series however, he’ll be piloting the Fusion that belongs to Kerry Micks in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. The August 10 race will be held at the Circuit de Trois-Rivieres as part of the Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres racing festival.
Gittin has made a huge name for himself wheeling a Mustang in Formula Drift. We’ve often wondered if some drivers from this series might try to make their way into other racing venues as well. While we don’t see Gittin leaving Formula D anytime soon, especially after starting his own team, and currently sitting third in points for the championship, it’s nice to see him get to showcase his talents in another series.
Gittin says that the team is surprised at how good his car control is, “The Kerry Micks team is surprised how smooth I am. Pretty sure everyone expects me at full lock around all the turns! Definitely fighting instinct to go sideways around the track but really enjoying the challenge!” We’re pretty sure that Gittin’s ability to choose a line as well as his car control skills are an incredibly valuable asset in a road course format.
Could Gittin eventually end up behind the wheel of a Nationwide or Sprint Cup car as a “hired gun” for road course events? We’re not sure, but we’d like to see it. NASCAR could definitely use a burst of energy and enthusiasm that Gittin brings to an event and we can’t wait to see how he does this weekend behind the wheel.
