Video: Bill From CJ Pony Parts Races To Keep Memory of Friend Alive

Mustang guys are typically a tight-knit group. When you spend time in this hobby you find typically make a lot of friends, and find many with more common interests than just the car. Sometimes those interests include racing the cars you love, which was the case between CJ Pony Parts Bill Tumas, and his friend Andrew “Krimpet” Bauer.

If you’ve watched any of CJ Pony Parts’ videos then you’re likely familiar with Tumas, he’s the resident CJ Tech Specialist and video host. What you may not realize is that Tumas himself has owned over 50 Mustangs, and is passionate about drag racing.

The 1996 Cobra featured in this video, belonged to Tumas’s friend Krimpet. When the two met, Tumas also owned a ’96 Cobra, and the two friends often drag raced the cars attempting to outdo each other by being the first to break particular ET milestones.

Sadly Krimpet passed away in 2002 as the result of car accident. His parents eventually sold the Cobra to Tumas, who cleaned it up and tries to keep it true to his friend’s build schemes and themes, most of which was budget minded.

The car features some very basic modifications, including a short-runner intake that Tumas built himself, IMRC deletes, also done by Tumas, an old Anderson Power Pipe for cold air induction, and a 4.56 ring and pinion, and Turetrac differential. Used Bogart wheels ride up front, with black plast-dipped Jeg’s pieces in the rear. These are all things Krimpet would have likely done to the car himself, on the tight budget he raced with.

To date the car’s best ET has been 12.21 at 109 mph, Tumas is hoping at an upcoming outing to take the car into the 11 second zone. He’s done his best over the years to keep the car budget minded, although he does mention in the video that he’d like to possibly swap it to a Coyote engine to take advantage of Ford’s high-tech marvel that makes the old Cobra setup look pretty dated.

The trunk of the car serves as a memorial to Krimpet, with custom paint, and notes done in paint-pen from various friends. Tumas’s efforts have kept the memory of his friend alive, and honor that memory by carrying on with his car.
