A few weeks ago, photos leaked of Ken Block, hooning a very custom ’65 Mustang in the streets of LA. This car even showed up at SEMA. With 845 horsepower under the hood, and a fully custom drivetrain, that includes all wheel drive, the Hoonicorn, as it has been named is the central piece of Gymkhana 7. The film has promised to feature some of the most insane action yet.
Gymkhana 7 is 12 minutes of absolute fun with Block at the Hoonicorn’s wheel, with plenty of hooning as only he can pull it off. Starting off in an industrial part of LA, and moving throughout the town there’s plenty of Block-style antics, spinning, and of course gratuitous tire smoke.
There’s donuts around a donut shop, a trip up the 10 freeway, and even a recreation of the most infamous chase up the 10 to ever take place. Something about a white Bronco being pursued at low speeds by a bunch of LA’s Finest.
What car film wouldn’t be complete without involving the LA River, or any of the drainage system that runs through parts of the city. Block heads down there to splash in the water, and hoon circles around what appears to be the shell of a clapped out Subaru -possibly paying homage to where he got his start in rally driving. There’s even some hooning involving a bouncing low-rider, where Block actually slides his car under the front end of the bouncing car.
The finale is a trip up Mount Lee and hooning just about the world famous Hollywood sign. While Gymkhana 7 is absent of some of the bigger stunts from block’s previous videos, it’s still wildly entertaining, and a great way to kill a few minutes on a boring, and probably cold Monday afternoon.
