“Jiffy Lube trained and certified technicians will treat your car as if it were their own.” And judging by the news clip below, Jiffy Lube techs must really dislike their cars. A Los Angeles news station placed hidden cameras in their car and then took the vehicles to nine Souther California Jiffy Lubes. As we have all experienced, the speedy oil-change shops try to upsell you on things like transmission flushes, injector de-clogging, and other high-margin services. Watch the video and see for yourself if such repairs are really worth the extra expense.
By the way - our advise, change your oil and filters.
Wow! And I was thinkingabout opening a franchised shop! What a piece of garbage!

This is truly a bad thing. But there is a jiffy lube here in wadesboro NC. The attendant allows you to watch as he makes repairs. The attendant is very friendly and very professional, and I pray that we don’t judge all Jiffy lube employees as is depected in this video

i was a tech for a auto dealership and i was fired for refuseing to skip repaires that were sold so this is not just a jiffy lube thing if you have to take your car to a shop i would make sure you can check on your repairs or services as thay were being done and if they give you that old line about ins. co.wont let the coustmer in the shop then i would ask them what they are trying to hide you are paying good money there is no reason why you should not be able to make sure you are getting what you are paying for.

I think I just scammed in the Lompoc, CA Jiffy Lube. I don’t believe my air filter was changed and come to think of it I don’t remember seeing any machines near my car to do any of these flushing that I paid for and other was shown to me. My car is now having problems and Jiffy Lube is refusing to do anything about it.

You know what really sucks…. The fact that the few employees that are doing things right and push the limits to make it the best place to get your vehicle serviced are effected by these videos as well. I work at a Franchised store in Lexington Kentucky store #871 and i can tell you that every single Employee and manager does there job there and does it right… We even try to do over and above, EX: Today a guy came in with a siezed up Altinator which cause his belt to break. He went across the street and got a new one we put it on for free while we worked on the Signature service.
I know there is a lot of coruption now adays with all that is going on but I assure you not all Jiffy Lubes are like these ones tested… I WILL ENSURE FOR THE REST OF THE TIME I WORK FOR THIS COMPANY TO DO 210%, I WILL ALSO ENSURE THAT AT WHATEVER STORE I MAY WORK AT ALL SERVICES WILL BE DONE TO THE CUSTOMERS DISCRETION!
Thank you for your time and please dont forget the little people.

Basha Service on Groesbeck Hwy in Clinton Township, Michigan is a great, fast service. They make you feel welcome, and do what you pay them to do…amazing it’s come down to this.

Im a mechanic at a “non chain” private shop. We get screw ups in all the time from the “quickie” type shops. Take your car to a shop that has been around for a LONG time, and be willing to pay a little extra. Most of the jiffy lube type shops have one or two real technicians and the rest of the guys are just kids that are trained to sell a bunch of memorized stuff that they dont even understand.
The preventative maintanence thing is huge now, and a lot of it is overkill. If something is needed, make them explain to you why, and not just some “every 15000 miles” thing. Also, always ask to see the parts that were removed and ask if you can keep them. If they hesitate, that is a problem.

We had a Newspaper Reporter take a car to a local dodge dealer they closed the Gap on a spark Plug and took it to Nine local Mechanic Shops. Two Shops gapped the plug Correctly Free. and the Other Seven wanted up to $250. for Replacing Fuel Injectors to Complete Valve Jobs.. I Was ripped off by a Chain Transmission Shop. They tore it apart and told me it would cost $450 to repair. this was in 1978 All was wrong was the Torque converter seal had blown. they showed me a cracked case and said it was mine.. NOT. Now I do all my work if I can’t watch the mechanic from a short distance..

I work at a Tires Plus store as a tire tech, I’m proud to say that i know our store takes good care of peoples stuff. Yesterday, i worked from 9-5 (we close at 5) and i didnt leave until 6:45 because we had so many vehicles left to take care of. We could have skipped steps and overlooked the little things, or just said “i’m sorry we couldn’t get to it tonight”, but we didnt, which is why we were there so late. Which brings up another point. If you bring your car in to get its oil changed, or tires put on, and it takes longer than normal, thats because the person doing it is taking there time and doing a good job so they dont miss anything. If they get your car done 20 min faster then promised, then i would be worried.

Perhaps this website or anyone else can recommend and post information on reputable repair shops (and I do mean very reputable) for us who depend on them.
F__ Thiefs like Jiffy Lube really P__ me off!

There used to be a service co called tuneup masters here that would recycle your oil and spark plugs. They are no longer in business they went under years ago. To top it off it was a company started by a ex nascar driver. A very famous driver named Andy Granatilie last name is mis spelled but you should know who im talking about

If this is just Jiffy Lube, how many other national chains are doing this to customers????
By Lea. December 1st, 2006 at 6:06 am
Sad. There is so much money to be made with the old fashioned methods of hard work & customer service….. Guess what methods I haven’t seen utilized in 99.9% of the buisness involving my money for more than a decade now?
By anthony dalrymple. November 30th, 2006 at 9:12 pm
Soooo bad and scary too. But my local Twilight Zone auto parts store usually has a sign hanging on the door that reads “oil dump full” yet they continue to sell oil & filters. Hard to know what to do. Except as bassman97 suggests - get to know a good local shop.
By SmellslikeWD40. November 29th, 2006 at 5:37 pm
Those Jiffy Lube crooks should be shut down through a class action or the BBB. They deserve any punishment they receive.
By russ94. November 28th, 2006 at 10:10 pm
They should have had the police with them when they went back to talk to the employees and district manager.
By truedog. November 28th, 2006 at 11:00 am
They deserve to be strung up!
By Lindsay. November 28th, 2006 at 9:57 am
This has been going on for many years. Firestone was one of the biggest scam repair centers in the eighties along with the national franchised Transmission shops. The news network did a couple of stories this past year on Jiffy Lube. It’s sad you can’t trust anyone or business in today’s society. All the higher-ups are out for the big buck and they don’t care how they get it. Like was said, do your own or watch them closely.
By Retyler. November 27th, 2006 at 2:45 pm
This is why I never take my car to be fixed by anyone unless I can’t do it myself. The Ford dealer stiffed me for replacing the headliner of my Mustang when they just re-glued it (luckily it was still under warranty). However, usually if you go to someone local (no nation-wide chains) and/or become friendly w/ the mechanic, that is probably the best way to avoid this if you can’t work on your car yourself.
