Today’s enthusiasts and project car builders are typically astute consumers, educated about making a purchase before we ever click the order button, or pick up the phone to place an order. Hours are often spent browsing the internet, reading articles, manufacturer web-sites, and even watching videos before we make a major parts purchase. Figuring out that final configuration on a custom built component can be a little daunting, and knowing what it will cost can be even more confusing.

Moser Engineering is known throughout the aftermarket for building high quality rear differentials, axles, and even drag brakes. We have used them on project cars such as our Project 666, and others in the Power Automedia family. Moser has a tool on their web-site to make ordering a nine-inch center section that much easier. Not only does this tool help you generate a part number, but it also helps you estimate the final price of the exact piece you’ll be ordering.

Moser has a simple PDF based worksheet that can guide you step by step through ordering ordering a center section. The file is printable, so if you have several configurations in mind and want an idea of which best fits your budget, you can work it out on paper before ever calling or ordering online.

To use the part number creator simply select each option for the nine inch housing you’re planning to order and write the corresponding letter or numbers in the box next to those options. Pricing for each option runs straight across from the listed component. Once you’ve completed entering the information, you will have created a vertical representation of the 10-digit alphanumeric part number that would be used to order your differential. You can also total all of the options to create the estimated price, though we do recommend confirming that price with Moser before you order.

This worksheet would also be handy if you were somewhere like a swap meet, or looking at a used center section to buy. Like a VIN decoder for a classic car, this worksheet could provide you with the necessary information to make sure you’re getting what you want for the price listed.

You can find links to this helpful worksheet, and a wealth of other technical information by visiting the Moser Engineering web-site, or giving them a call.
