Automotive photography is considered by many people, even those not interested in cars, to be an art. Capturing cars at the right angle, the right speed while capturing the feeling of motion without drowning out the background and of course the subject itself in just the right light requires a cadre of special, often expensive tools.
Sometimes those tools include a specialized car or two. A Reddit poster by the name of “autoalex” posted these pictures of a Ford Focus ST wagon converted into a camera car, utilizing a rear-facing jump seat to give the photographer an unobstructed view of the car. Talk about a unique ride.
The photo shoot was actually for the new Ford Fiesta ST, which in Europe will be sold as a coupe. America will only get a hatchback four-door version of the Fiesta ST, with its 197 horsepower 1.6 liter EcoBoost engine. It’s fast, but not as fast as its big brother, the Focus ST, which is available as a wagon as well as a hatchback in Europe. Wagon sales make up about 25% of Focus ST sales in Europe.
The wagon was converted into a sort-of-pickup, with just enough room in the jumper seat for the photographer, his equipment, and his legs. The builders even managed to keep the back seat and all four doors. Makes us wonder if that lends any credence to the rumors of a Focus-based pickup truck. Whatever the case, this unique Ford Focus ST camera car is just another example of the limitless creativity of car guys.
