Barreling into the corner, Justin Pawlak flicks the wheel and sets the angle. His Mustang glides across the pavement, its rear tires spinning a cloud of smoke in their wake. To make this happen, the engine revs beyond 7,000 rpm and its TVS supercharger churns out a steady supply of boost.

To survive in the harsh environs of Formula Drift, you might expect the Coyote 5.0-liter engine powering his S550 is an exotic build, but it’s really just a Ford Performance Parts crate engine.

Knowing its engines are built to survive, the factory hot-rodding division decided to document the teardown of Justin’s Aluminator to see just how it held up.
