In full disclosure, the 2005-2006 Ford GT has to be one of our all-time favorite Blue Oval cars ever produced – but can you blame us? The cylinder heads, alone, are some of the most legendary for the Mod-Motor engine family. And the engine itself? Well, don’t even get us started on that! It’s one of the best designs in Ford’s engine history, in our opinion.
Sure, these engines may not be as potent as the newer 5.0-liter Coyote iterations, or the 5.8-liter Trinity variant for that matter; but up until these engines came to fruition, the 5.4-liter DOHC, all aluminum, Four-Valve Mod-Motor found in the ’05-’06 GT supercar was quite literally the king of the hill in its heyday.
But looking past that marvelous V8 engine lies a supercar which was built for just about any racing application imaginable, as it was to be driven on the street. This example, brought to us by our friends at the Mecum Auctions, has less than 1,300 miles on its odometer (1,285 original ones, to be exact). Finished in its Tungsten Gray Metallic paint, this Ford GT has spent its life in a climate controlled garage, and is one of 494 produced in that exterior hue with the included side and over-the-top LeMans striping.
If you’re in the market for a spectacular GT, you’ll be happy to know that this example will include all of the complete books, records and even the original window sticker. Mecum Auctions estimates this Ford GT will auction for around $300,000 – $350,000, though we’ve seen them sell for even higher in the past. Checkout the original ad here for more details on this Ford GT, as it will be available for auction on May 16th – 21st in Indianapolis, Indiana.
