Final Round Eliminations Part 1
Final Round Eliminations Part 2
We are here in Atco New Jersey for NMRA’s third event of the 2010 season, second point’s event. They were calling for a good chance of rain today but as of now it’s a hot and humid. The track staff is prepping the track for the test & tune that will be run at 3pm.
Cars are still coming in through the gate and making their way to tech. Currently some of NMRA’s top cars are here on the grounds.
We have Mike Murillo and his bad Mustang running in Pro Outlaw looking to dip into the 6.60 mark at over 200 MPH.
Ken Ewer in Drag Radial who just finished his new motor a few weeks ago and ran it at the Cecil County meet for the first time. Let’s see how he runs on the BFG’s this weekend at Atco!
Dave Guy in Drag Radial
Lou Proto and his nice convertible SSO ride.
Brian Mitchell making his way up to tech in one of the Wizard Mustangs!
Dan Rawls and his Inductions Soultions EFI Renegade ride is also here on the grounds.
The Tuten Brothers Chris and his SSO Mustang and Brian who has moved from EFI Renegade to Drag Radial are here ready to run for the winners circle here at Atco.
Don Bowles is here at Atco; Don who is the only non Mustang running in Hot Street with his Maverick.
Time to go out and see who else has arrived at Atco.
Will post updates once Test & Tune starts in about 45 minutes at 3pm.
{ad:HHP}
Test and Tune Notes
We are continuing here with Test and Tune. First round of qualifying will be starting at 7pm.
Jason Lee in Drag Radial came off the trailer and his first pass goes an 8.02 @ 176! Look for some big runs this weekend out of the Red four eyed radial car.
Lou Proto had an aborted pass and goes 8.25.
Chris Tuten’s Super Street Outlaw car on his first test and tune pass went 7.59.
Don Bowles in the Hot Street Maverick ran an 8.60 @158. The old man can still do it!
We’ve yet to see Mike Murillo or John Urist come out for a test and tune pass but we still have a couple hours to go.
I’ll be back with more updates after I take a trip around the pits and see what everyone is up too.
Test & Tune continues with some impressive numbers with the Drag Radial cars!
Dave Guy goes 8.10 his first pass in the test & tune session. The Drag Radial cars are really stepping up in the test session. If this holds look out for a very close field here this weekend.
Chad Doyle not to be outdone comes up behind Dave Guy and runs 8.07. Doyle ran an 8.07 in Bradenton so it looks like the man from Michigan has his car dialed in.
Mike Murillo aborted his run so we’ll see what can if he comes out again and see if he can knock off a six second run.
Ken Ewer goes 8.32 in test and tune. Ewer just had a new motor finished a few weeks ago. He looks to improve on last years runner up finish at Atco.
First Round of qualifying has just been called up to the lanes. I’m going to head out now. I’ll be back with updates after round one has finished.

Qualifying Round 1 Notes
Drag Radial Qualifying
Jason Lee goes 7.94 @ 178.90 in the first round of qualifying in Drag Radial. Jason has been setting the bar for this class the past few years ran straight down the track in his first test and tune with an 8.02 and then busts off this killer time of 7.94.
Congrats Jason on the quick pass. He sure looks to be on his game this weekend.
Due to rain, the program had to be cut short this evening. The following results is what was available before the Compulink computer was shut down due to lightning in the area. I will post the other two classes that ran in the morning, and the classes that did not get the chance to run will only complete their two qualifying rounds tomorrow.
Factory Stock

Pure Street

Real Street

Round one Qualifying sheets for Drag Radial are Hot Street are available now.

Saturday Morning in Atco
Good morning from Atco here on Saturday morning. The weather last night cut short qualifying for a couple classes. Pro Outlaw and EFI Renegade will only get two qualifying sessions. Factory Stock, Pure Street, Real Street and Drag Radial were able to complete the first qualifying session last night before the torrential down pour hit Atco.
Jason Lee’s strong 7.94 pass looks to keep him number 1 through today but with the likes of Enzo Pecchini and David Guy who both have run in the 7’s before it looks like Drag Radial will be a very tight class this weekend.
Action today started right after 9 with bracket racing, the heads up classes will be following them.
Once again thanks to SCT Performance for making all of our coverage possible. Visit them at sctflash.com
The weather today looks to be great for racing. More racers have arrived since yesterday night.
John Urist is warming his car up for today’s qualifying session. Urist one of the most dominant racers in NMRA history looks to take home the Atco championship just like in previous years. John is the first SSO driver that has run into the 7.20’s.
Sam Vincent is here on the grounds with his Nitrous combination. Sam recently ran 7.28 at the Bradenton NMRA event and he looks to run similar times with the nice cool weather today.
We have a little down time right now with the track crew scraping the track and prepping it.
The cars are waiting in the lanes to run. The cars have been called to the lanes but they are just waiting for the track crew to finish up and we’ll be back up and running.
Second Round of Qualifying
2nd round has just been completed for Factory Stock, Pure Street, Real Street and Drag Radial. EFI Renegade, Super Street Outlaw and Pro Outlaw have just finished first round since they were not able to get first round in last night due to the rain.
Last year’s Drag Radial Champ Jason Lee goes low E.T. for the event. Jason has continually improved on his E.T. each pass. In Test & Tune he went 8.02, first round of qualifying Lee goes 7.94 and in the second round Lee improves and now holds the record with a 7.89 @ 180.
Don Bowles in his Hot Street Maverick goes 8.49 @157. Don who is last year’s Hot Street champ has stepped up his E.T. from the first round to his 8.49 in the second round. Look for Don to be consistent once eliminations start.
In Real Street Tim Matherly who has been near or at the top the last few seasons steps up from his first qualifying effort from a 9.71 to a 9.54 @143
In EFI Renegade Dan Rawls in the Inductions Solutions Nitrous Mustang goes 8.34 @ 164. Dan who last year came very close to earning the EFI Renegade Championship looks on top of his game this weekend.
In Super Street Outlaw John Urist is holding the number 1 spot as of now with a 7.40 @191. Urist who has won the last 4 championships in SSO is gunning for number 5 this year and with the way he is running after first round he has 4 tenths on the rest of the field.
In Factory Stock Tommy Godfrey is well ahead of the field with an 11.00 @121. Tommy has been very dominant in Factory Stock and looks to be the same here this weekend at Atco. Godfrey is two tenths faster than number 2 qualifier Carlos Sobrino.
In Pure Street another familiar face is Ryan Hecox ran a 10.34 @ 129. Hecox isn’t currrently number one right now. That belongs to Steve Gifford with his 10.09.

Notes from the Pits
Rick Riccardi of Hot Street and also of Downs Ford who is the title sponsor recently updated his car to a 25.5 spec cage. Rick’s car has been at Hell Bent Race Cars the last few weeks getting the updates done and this morning Rick got the car fired for the first time since everything went back together.
Rick’s previous best in Hot Street was an 8.77 last year at Bowling Green. Today right off the trailer Rick goes his best E.T. to date. An 8.65 at 150 short shifting 1-2. Look for Rick to step up once he is totally comfortable with the car.
Stopping by Drag Radial Ken Ewer’s pit they were thrashing on the car. Ken went an 8.31 and 8.32 in the first two rounds so he’ll be in the field for tomorrow’s eliminations. He will sit out the third round while he sees if he has a cracked piston. A few weeks ago Ken hit the bumper and cracked a different piston.
{ad:HHP}
Final Round of Qualifying
Round 3 has come to a close with a bang!
First up in Round 3 which they ran in reverse order was Pro Outlaw. Pro Outlaw only see three racers. Mike Murillo, Conrad Scarry, and Dwayne James.
Conrad Scarry was up first, he had a tough time getting down the track his first time up but in his last shot he goes 6.73 @218.37. This set the record in Pro Outlaw and was Conrad’s fastest time.
Mike Murillo who was up next had something to say about that and goes a 6.71 @219.22 lowering the record Scarry just set the previous run down the quarter. Look for these two in the finals with the way they have run this weekend.
Super Street Outlaw, the NMRA’s 10″ tire freak show was up next. Not many of the racers improved this round. Chris Tuten looks like he may have hurt his motor Friday night but he still came out in the 2nd round and ran a 7.89 @ 190 on 7 cylinders.
John Macdonald improved on his first attempt running a 7.45 @194 for top MPH of the event.
Sam Vincent stepped up his qualifying efforts with a 7.622 @188. Look for Sam to continue to improve as he had the nitrous car running very well at Bradenton.
In EFI Renegade Dan Rawls seems to have the field covered by almost 2 tenths. In the last round of qualifying something may have happened as the car was breaking up a bit and his time was way off pace. We’ll see what happens Sunday once eliminations start.
Chris Van Gilder in EFI Renegade seems to be Mr. Consistent this weekend running a 8.49 @160 and 8.52 @ 160.
Next up was Edelbrock Hot Street. We have 4 competitors here this weekend at Atco. Don Bowles has the number one spot with a 8.495 @157 with Robbie Blankenship behind him with an 8.563 @ 157. The bigger story this weekend in Hot Street is Rick Riccardi’s beautiful just finished 81 Capri. Rick’s new 25.5 cage done by Hell Bent Race Cars is a beautiful piece.
Jason Lee goes low again in Drag Radial with a 7.891 @179 lowering the E.T. record yet again in Drag Radial. Jason has gone faster every single pass he has made this weekend. Lee looks to be consistent in eliminations and take home the Atco crown this weekend.
Drag Radial is the closest field here this weekend with Lee running a very strong 7.891, Enzo Pecchini running 8.06, Andrew Barrale 8.08, Chad Doyle 8.25, Steve Thompson 8.27, Ken Ewer 8.31 and Brian Tuten rounding out the field with an 8.61.
Brian Tuten who moved from EFI Renegade to Drag Radial is out for the first time at Atco with his new setup. He’s running a mod motor with an
Real Street was up next, four cars were competing this weekend with Tim Matherly taking the top spot with his 2010 Mustang running a 9.503 @144. Tim’s new cars looks real strong this weekend. Tim will be tough to beat this weekend running the numbers he is.
Pure Street another exciting wheels up class was up next with Alan Von Ahnen taking the top spot with a 10.09 @ 131. With 8 racers out here this weekend it looks to be another class that will be exciting come eliminations on Sunday.
In Factory Stock Tommy Godfrey heads up the class with an 11.008 @ 121. The next closest qualifier is Carlos Sobrino with an 11.207 @ 119. Godfrey looks to be a strong candidate to take home the Atco win this weekend.
Highlights from Saturday
Conrad Scarry going low with a 6.73 at 218
Mike Murillo right behind bettering Scarry’s previous best at 6.71 @ 219
Jason Lee going faster every pass down the track. 8.02, 7.947, 7.896 and 7.891. This radial car is out of control, Jason has it running so well the rest of the field may just be fighting for second place.
Tim Matherly in his beautiful 2010 Mustang. Tim dominated in his previous Mustang and with the new 2010 its all just the same. Tim has been a Real Street mainstay for quite a while now and he continues to be at the top of the field every event.
Brian Tuten is out for the first time in Drag Radial. Tuten who has campaigned a nitrous entry the past few years in EFI Renegade has jumped into Drag Radial with a Mod Motor turbo combination. Brian seems to still be sorting out some bugs but he has been getting quicker each pass so look out the rest of season for Brian Tuten.
David Guy in Radial, Guy seems to be a tad off from previous events this year and last but he’ll find a way to get it done. David Guy seems to have some incredible MPH so he has the power there.
Ryan Hecox who usually dominates the Pure Street class sees himself qualified in the number 4 position with a 10.34 at 129. Hecox is a veteran so we’ll see if he can step it up in eliminations.
Exciting wheels up competition in Pure Street. This class is one that hangs em up high each pass.
Saturday had some action in all classes all day. Pro Outlaw with two of the quickest times in the class this year and at that on back to back passes. Class teardowns, wheelies, a few oils downs during the day slowed the racing down but the Atco staff had everything under control.
Sunday’s eliminations should be very exciting, hope to see everyone out there!

Sunday Morning from the Pits
Update from the pits
It’s after 9am so guess what we get to do today? Yeah that’s right racing has started at Atco with NMRA’s finest starting eliminations. Cars are being pulled out of there trailers getting ready for todays action.
Special thanks to our event sponsor SCT Performance. Check out www.sctflash.com for all their great tuning solutions.
After an action packed day of racing yesterday with records being broken multiple times in a few classes today looks to see some great runs with the cool weather we have this morning.
Jason Lee looks to continue his roll in Drag Radial. Jason has been dominate this weekend throughout qualifying. If all holds true look for Lee to continue and take home the Drag Radial win. Jason has worked hard getting this motor together the past few weeks after damaging his previous one. Looks like the hard work has paid off!
Mike Murillo who yesterday ran a 6.71 in Pro Outlaw is fighting some of the same issues he had in Bradenton. The SCT team always seems to find a way to win or in the least be up front in the Pro Outlaw class. I would expect the same today in Eliminations.
In EFI Renegade Dan Rawls was ahead of the rest of the field qualifying with an 8.34, we have yet to hear how the teardown went. Once we hear we will update everyone with the status of the Inductions Solutions Mustang.
Ozzy Ucer yesterday was fighting some issues getting down the track but he has enlisted some great help this morning. Let’s see if it pays off in first round against the veteran Chris Tuten.
In Hot Street Rick Riccardi looks to continue his improvement with his new Hell Bent Chassis. Rick has went his two fastest passes to date with an 8.66 and 8.65. Even though he is off from the likes of Don Bowles and Robbie Blankenship look for the Downs Ford Capri to continue his improvement. This team deserves everything for all the hard work they have put in over the last few weeks.
Heads up classes are being called to the lanes in a few so I’m going to head out to the starting line and get ready for some exciting NMRA wheels up action
{ad:HHP}
Factory Stock Eliminations Round 1
Factory Stock has finished first round and we have went back into brackets. A bracket car got a little loose on top end and hit the wall.
Tommy Godfrey had a single due to an odd number of cars in the field so he moves on.
Jay Dold took on Michael Washington and took him out with an 11.10 over a losing 11.70
Carolos Sobrino was up against the newlywed John Leslie Jr with Leslie falling to Sobrino with a losing 11.51 to Sobrino’s 11.27.
Jeremy Taylor was up against Rick Walsh with Taylor taking the strip with an 11.43 to Walsh’s 11.91
Alan Cann and Chalie Ranking were up with Cann winning 11.42 to a slowing 12.51
Right now we are still waiting for the clean up to be finished up on the top end. The other heads up classes should be called in a little bit.
More Round 1 Updates
Round 1 almost all finished up other than a few classes.
Pro Outlaw was up first with Conrad Scarry taking on Dwayne James. Scarry who yesterday had the Pro Outlaw for about 2 minutes looks to take the win this weekend at Atco. Scarry will be matched up with Mike Murillo in the finals of Pro Outlaw. Dwayne James has had problems getting down the track this weekend and was finally able to do that with a 7.71 but that wasn’t enough to get by Scarry.
Mike Murillo had a first pass bye and just took the light and was pushed back. Not sure if they are still fighting some issues with the head gasket. We’ll see in the finals when Murillo takes on Conrad Scarry.
In Super Street Outlaw Chris Tuten was up against Ozzy Ucer. Tuten took the win as Ucer had some issues getting down the track. Tuten lit the scoreboards with a 7.77 at 184.
Sam Vincent was up next against Chip Havemann with Chip getting the upset win. Sam had some traction problems down track and was only ablle to run a 7.99 @ 162. John MacDonald had a bye as Lou Proto wasn’t able to make the call.
Last up in SSO was John Urist on a single. Urist is the first car this weekend in the 7.30’s running a 7.37 @
In EFI Renegade Dan Rawls who was found to be legal after the teardown showed everyone that he has the Inductions Solutions car running consistent 8.30’s. Brian Mitchell the other half of the Wizard team ran an 8.44 taking out Bart Tobner who ran a slowing 9.20. Chris Van Gilder was up next with a single as Bryan Muth wasn’t able to make the call. Van Gilder ran a 8.63 @ 159.
In Hot Street Rick Riccardi and Robbie Blankenship were up first. Riccardi wasn’t able to get the car turned over so Blankenship made a solo and ran an 8.55 @ 153. The second pair up was Charlie Booze Jr and Don Bowles, Charlies car crept through the lights and he shut if off. Bowles went down the 1/4 for the win with an 8.50 @ 157.
Drag Radial, Real Street and Pure Street haven’t run yet but they have just been called to the lanes for first round. I will be back with final updates from Round 1 after Drag Radial, Real Street and Pure Street finish up.
Final Round One Notes
Round 1 Complete in all classes.
In Drag Radial Jason Lee has does it once again. The man from Ohio has run quicker yet again with a 7.87 @ 179. This time Jason had to do a little driving with a wheelstand plus being a little bit over the track.
In Real Street Tim Matherly looks tough to beat. Matherly ran 9.48 @ 144.
In Pure Street Ryan Hecox puts it on the bumper and runs 10.29 @ 129. Hecox looks tough this weekend. The Pure Street racers will have a tough time with the veteran champ.
{ad:HHP}
Eliminations Round 2 Notes
Factory Stock just finished up round 2.
Up first was Jay Dold and Jeremy Taylor. Dold took out Taylor with an 11.11 @ 119 over Taylors 11.34 @ 118.
Alan Cann was up against Tommy Godfrey, Godfrey who has been the quickest this weekend ran an 11.02 @ 121 over Cann’s 11.72 @ 118.
Carlos Sobrino had a solo and ran an 11.28 @ 119.
Super Street Outlaw & EFI Renegade finish Round 2
EFI Renegade had two solo in the semis. Dan Rawls and Chris Van Gilder. They will both meet in the finals to see who can win EFI Renegade at Atco.
Chris Tuten & Johnny Mac were up first. Tuten who is running on 7 cylinders made a great effort but he wasn’t able to knock out Johnny Mac who has been real consistent this weekend running in the 7.40’s.
John Urist used up just about all of the track on his past 7.40 run at 190 MPH. John will meet up with Johnny Mac in the finals of Super Street Outlaw.
Drag Radial, Real Street and Pure Street have been called back to the lanes.
More Round Two action
Jason Lee was up against Andrew Barrale. Jason has been faster every pass this weekend but he didn’t need that 7 second pass as Barrale had some issues. Lee will face Enzo in the finals in Drag Radial. Enzo took on Chad Doyle, Doyle spun the tires at the hit so Enzo took the win with an 8.02.
In Pure Street Ryan Hecox was taken out by Steve Gifford and Jim St. Charles took out Alan Von Ahen.
In Factory Stock Tommy Godfrey advanced to the finals beating Carlos Sobrino with an 11.04 @ 118 over a losing 11.34.

Final Round Recap
Race Recap for the 10th Annual NMRA Ford Nationals Presented By Downs Ford Motorsport at Atco Raceway in Atco, New Jersey
The Garden State always seems to see some great E.T’s by the NMRA Racers. From Pro Outlaw Conrad Scarry running 6.73 for the record and Mike Murillo right behind him running a 6.71 and taking right away from the Scarry Crew, In Super Street Outlaw Johnny Mac @ John Urist running in the 7.30’s against some strong competition from the likes of Chris Tuten and Chip Havemann. Chris Tuten ran most of the weekend on 7 cylinders and still pulling out big MPH’s at 190. Tuten didn’t have enough in the front half and was chasing Johnny Mac but just couldn’t get around him.
Overall Atco was a great race with some great people to be around. The finals shaped up to be great. The NMRA racers who attended the Atco race ran some great times and set some blistering records.
Finals
Pro Outlaw
Mike Murillo and Conrad Scarry lined up in Pro Outlaw 10.5 and it would be Scarry who would take the win as he outran Murillo who seemed to be fighting some issues since his first qualifying attempt. Scarry would run a mid & pass as he had some issues getting down track but Murillo’s issues held him back from taking the win.
Super Street Outlaw
Next would be NMRA’s 10” Tire Freak show with John Urist up against John MacDonald. Urist tree’d Johnny Mac running a 7.43 over Johnny’s Mac’s faster 7.40. John Urist has been one of the most dominant racers in NMRA history and he just keeps adding on to the reputation that he has deservedly earned the past 5 years.
Drag Radial
Jason Lee who was so consistent this weekend pulling off 7 second pass after 7 second pass took home the Drag Radial win over Enzo Pecchini with a 7.94 over Enzo’s losing but still quick 8.02.
Hot Street
Hot Street had four competitors out at Atco with Don Bowles qualifying number one and taking home the win this weekend. Don loves Atco as he says since he always seems to run real consistent here. Rick Riccardi although off the pace from the other Hot Street racers is starting to get his car figured out with the new Hell Bent 25.5 cage that was done a few weeks ago. Congrats to Rick on the new best E.T.’s and also a big congratulations to Don Bowles with his win over Robbie Blankenship.
EFI Renegade
In the finals of EFI Renegade Dan Rawls squared off against Chris Van Gilder. Rawls who this weekend went into the 8.30’s twice setting the record took out Van Gilder. Rawls had some transmission issues this weekend but he didn’t let that stop him from taking home the win.
Real Street
Tim Matherly who long has been at the top of the field in Real Street took home yet another win. Matherly who recently switched from his tried and true 2002 Mustang to a brand new 2010 Mustang, still was able to take home another win to Georgia. Even though the car changed the results are still the same for Tim Matherly and his MV Performance Mustang.
Pure Street
In Pure Street Jim St. Charles became the first Pure Street driver to run in the 9’s with a 9.99. Speaking with Jim after he ran the 10.001 his engine was sealed so he went for it in the finals and pulled out the first 9 second run. Congrats to Jim.
Factory Stock
In Factory Stock Jay Dold took home the win over Tommy Godfrey with a holeshot win. Jay’s 11.23 beat out Tommy’s faster 11.15. Jay had a great weekend and congratulations on the well earned Factory Stock win at Atco.
