While many readers may be familiar with the name Webasto in terms of aftermarket sunroof solutions, they may not realize that Webasto also supplies sunroofs to the many OEM manufacturers, including Ford. While twenty-plus years ago sunroof owners often complained of noise and worried about leaks with aftermarket units, today Webasto goes to great lengths to engineer and design their systems to not only keep out the water, but the wind noise as well.
For this year’s SEMA show, Webasto teamed up with several aftermarket companies to bring out their one of a kind Taurus SHO, aka Black Ice. This show car of course features dual Webasto powered sunroofs to provide an ultra-luxury feel. The interior has also been updated by MRT with a host of their High-Tech FX carbon fiber accennts as well as Katzkin leather custom embroidered seats.
Outside MRT worked their magic as well with custom applied Sherwin Williams paint giving the car a tuxedo appearance. The addition of louvers to the hood in carbon fiber as well as more High Tech FX parts set the car apart. 22×9-inch Modulare Forged M30 3-piece wheels wearing Goodyear F1 Supercar 255/35 rubber round out the look.
Those good looks mean nothing to many of us without some performance to back it up. Black Ice delivers there as well with a custom tune by Innovative Diesel using SCT software. There’s also a Snow Performance water/methanol system onboard. Handling has been improved thanks to H&R springs, and upgrades to the brakes from Baer do the stopping.
Black Ice is a prime example of an after-factory installation on a car that appears factory, and how a Webasto sunroof or sunroofs can fit into a performance or luxury car. Factory equipped, or after the purchase, a Webasto sunroof goes a long way into making any car a little cooler.
