2014 is a huge year for Ford, and especially the Ford Mustang, which is celebrating its 50th year of continuous production. It’s the only of America’s muscle cars to survive this country’s many highs and lows the last five decades, and the Blue Oval is putting on a big, year-long celebration that culminates with the first 2015 Mustangs arriving on dealership lots this fall.
We’ve already written at length about the planned dual celebrations at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway this April. But another big Ford event will have a big surprise, according to Motor Authority, as the Blue Oval will roll out one of the last remaining, untouched pre-production 1964 Mustangs at the Ford Nationals in Carlisle, Pennsylvania this summer.
But that won’t be the only special car Ford has on hand for the Carlisle crowd. A 1968 “Branded Special” Mustang will also be there, which was a special dealer kit for spruced up trade-in 1965 to 1968 Mustangs for resale. The kit included your choice of vinyl top colors and side stripes, as well as quarter panel chrome and emblems. There will also be a 1971 Olympic Sprint Mustang for those preferring the latest years of the pony car.
Ford will also roll out the a replica of the “Going Thing” Mustangs (pictured at the top) used by the Ford Drag Racing Team in 1968. Also on hand will be a 1969 Ford Mustang 4.1 Liter Special, a 1979 Ford Mustang Indy Pace Car, a 1993 Ford Mustang SSP Police Package, a 1985 Ford Mustang Twister II Special, a 1969 Ford Mustang Shelby De Mexico, and a 1968 Ford Mustang California Special.
