With the economic environment still a bit shaky for many Americans, many of those crazy, enthusiastic, and ambitious project car plans have been delayed or even permanently shelved. In spite of the financial woes of many, there are still a few builders who persevere with the time, money, and skills necessary to make even a common classic like the Ford Mustang really stand out from its peers.

Jason Conner is just such a person, and Hooniverse reports on his ambitious and bold project, a ‘68 Fastback Mustang with a monster twin-turbo V8 stroked to 408 cubic-inches. This certainly isn’t your average restomod project.

While the Ford 302 engine has enjoyed renewed popularity among the restomod crowd, those who have been modifying Mustangs know that the 351W holds a lot of potential especially when you add extra cubes. Conner’s project will utilize a 351W stroked to 408 cubic-inches, which by itself is an absolute torque monster. These engines have no problem producing in excess of 400 ft-lbs of torque without forced induction.

Conner is going a step further, adding not one but two Twin Precision 57mm turbochargers to his engine. While the project is obviously still a long way from completion, when finished this engine should easily produce 700 or 800 horsepower, and it will be backed by a Tremec 5-speed manual for a shift-your-own-adventure unlike any other. We can’t wait to see the finished product.
