The road trip is a classic epic journey for American adventurers, giving people a chance to experience parts of the country they have only heard about. A road trip can also be a very useful fundraising tool, granting lots of exposure and face-to-face time for the right road trippers and their cause. And nobody can deny the worthiness of the Wounded Warriors Project, which seeks to raise money to help American war veterans returning with physical and mental scars that will stay with them the rest of their lives.

To help raise money and awareness, Colonel John Folsom embarked on a 50 state road trip called the High Five Tour in his custom-painted 2011 Shelby GT500. He plans to visit a Ford dealership in every state capital with his Stars and Stripes-painted Shelby to raise money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project.

The journey actually started back on June 22nd, leaving from Des Moines, Iowa, meaning that Folsom is well into his road trip and somewhere in California or Arizona right now. He has already covered the entire East Coast and will be making his way to Hawaii (via airplane) in the next few days before heading up to the Pacific Northwest and back down into the Great Plains.

So there are still plenty of chances to meet Colonel Folsom and give your support to the Wounded Warriors Project. Alternatively, you can donate $5 by texting “highfive” to 20222, or donate via the website. It’s a great trip and a great cause, and we only wish we had known about it a bit sooner so we could have met Folsom ourselves.
