The Ford Mustang probably has the most variants, versions, and different models of any other car on the planet, even the endlessly-accessorized Bugatti Veyron. Alas, because everyone wants credit for these cool creations, you sometimes end up with names like the Ford Hertz Penske Mustang GT. Tongue-twisting name aside, just 150 of these modified muscle machines were made, and one of them popped up for sale on the Dallas-area craigslist.
Ready to drop nearly $40,000 on a super-rare modern Mustang? With 420 horsepower, a fully-loaded interior, and a classic look recalling the original look of the 1960s Herzt Mustangs, it sure makes a good case for itself during this month of the Mustang’s birthday celebration.
These rare vehicles started life as standard Mustang GT premium models, with leather seats and the Ford SYNC system included. From the Flat Rock Assembly Plant, these Mustangs were shipped to Roush Industries. Roush added a GT500 rear spoiler and diffuser, a Boss 302 front splitter, and a GT500 exhaust.
Other modifications include a 3:55 rear end, a cold-air intake, a Ford Racing three-pod gauge cluster, and of course serialized plates to make it all official. Classic examples of the Hertz “Rent-a-racers” often bring with them a hefty pricetag when sold. Will this one be as collectible in 50 more years? With 10,000 miles on the odometer, this Mustang is broken in and ready to make a run to anywhere you want to go. So who wants to pony-up the money for this future collectible?
