In September of 1964, the Ford Mustang had what is arguably its first truly important racing victory in its long and potent history. Three Mustangs, prepared by Holman & Moody, competed in the Tour de France Automobile Rally, finishing in first, second, and third place, helping launching a storied motorsports career for the Mustang.
To celebrate this historic victory from nearly 50 years ago, Holman & Moody announced in November at the SEMA show that they would build an affordable, limited edition package based on the 2014 Mustang. Six months later, production has officially begun. For the collector looking to add one more Mustang variant to their garage, this one would be a bargain buy.
Priced at $9,896, the package adds both power, handling, and a unique paint job to the 2014 Mustang GT. A Ford Racing engine calibration package and cat-back exhaust system increases horsepower by 16 ponies and adds 7 ft-lbs of torque, giving it near BOSS 302 power. A 3:73 limited-slip differential and SVT-adjusted springs and shocks help this Mustang carve corners.
There are also some unique styling touches to the car’s interior and exterior as well, including unique gold badging and wheels, a red shift knob, and optional custom H&M embroidered Recaro seats for an additional charge. Additional upgrades to the suspension in the form of better sway bars can also be had for an additional cost.
With a price that brings this 2014 Mustang at around $40,000, the Holman & Moody Tour de France package offers an alternative to the very-popular, and now discontinued BOSS 302, and with similar levels of performance. The price-tag makes this one of the most affordable performance Mustang packages on the market today. While some Mustang fans may turn up their nose at any reference to France, this 1-2-3 finish was an important part of establishing the Mustang as a real performance competitor. This tribute to those original red ponies has the right price and the right timing for a car that has morphed into a symbol of American automotive performance.
Production will be limited to just 500 cars per year. The H&M TdF Mustang can be ordered directly from Holman & Moody, or the package can be installed by any Ford dealer.
