There were a few racers getting their first NMRA wins at the most recent All Star Nationals at Atlanta Dragway. One of those is Modular Muscle racer Adam Cox. He has labored in the class for a few years now, and was finally able to put it all together at Atlanta.
Cox used to consistently run a stick in the class, but for a brief time he made the switch over to a Powerglide. However, he was unable to get comfortable with the set-up. “A stick was all I ever raced so back in it went,” Cox says.
Out came the Powerglide, and back in went his Tremec TKO 600 he built using Liberty gears. In front of the TKO 600 is a stock stroke, stock crankshaft, 13:1 Four-Valve with untouched ’04 Cobra heads, Comp Cams grinds, a Sullivan intake, and a Quick Fuel Technology 750 carburetor.
There are a few changes Cox has made to his program to make it possible to get his first win. First, when he switched back to the TKO, he made a few changes in how he stages the car and, “It has paid huge dividends,” he says.
Plus, the support from the Warren family (John Sr., John, and Andy), and “a promise to my father, who has been in bad health, that I was going to bring home a win. It was the first win of my life. I gave my trophy to my dad. Both my mom and dad were in tears.”
That’s what it’s all about right there. Congrats Adam.
