It’s no secret that we’re a fan of centrifugal superchargers just like our friends at AmericanMuscle and Vortech Superchargers. It’s why Stephanie and the crew at AM chose to update its 2014 Mustang GT with a Vortech blower, after all. The car, as you might remember it from a few years back, was actually used as an AM in-house project vehicle during the battle of the ‘Stangs – where AM pitted this mild bolt-on Coyote car against a boosted Three-Valve Mustang in a head-to-head competition on the drag strip.
After a few pitfalls, such as the rearend taking damage, Stephanie and the folks at AM decided to bring the Coyote out of hibernation to the tune of more horsepower and torque in the latest episode of its “Hot Lap” video series.
How does more than 174 horsepower and nearly 90 lb.-ft. of torque sound to you? That improvement can be attributed to the Vortech V3 Si centrifugal supercharger kit (PN 100315), which includes a massive air-to-air front mounted intercooler to complete the package. With nearly a third more horsepower, how does the blown Coyote run you might ask? Well, in the capable hands of Stephanie, it’s enough to power this S197 Mustang into the deep low 11-second range in the quarter-mile.
However, as Steph points out, the MPH she was traping (127-plus) proves that this Coyote-powered ‘Stang shouldn’t have a problem seeing high 10-second passes in its near future. And remember, that’s on a stock long-block and stock MT-82 six-speed manual transmission. Not bad for an otherwise stock Mustang.
