Although it may not look or feel like it in many parts of the country right now, spring is officially here, and that means the beginning to a brand new season of racing is finally upon us. It also signals the coming of one of the longest-running doorslammer drag races in the sport, as for the last 18 years, the Holcomb Motorsports Spring Outlaw Civil Wars at the Rockingham Dragway has been a virtual mainstay on the racing calendar for all-Ford and small-tire drag racers.

The Spring Outlaw Civil Wars will return to “The Rock” once again this April (26-28) for its 18th rendition, with a stacked lineup of exciting heads-up and index categories. While not the quickest category on the property, the one that’s been stealing the limelight at race tracks all across the nation is X275, and thanks to the continued support of the folks at Baer Brake Systems, the wildly popular eliminator will once again be a featured part of the Civil Wars, with a lucrative $5,000 payday awaiting the winner.

2012SPRING-032-MediumThanks to the support of Baer, in addition to the big winners purse, Holcomb Motorsports will also award the runner-up with $1,500, the semifinalists with $500, and each of the quarterfinalists with $150.

The 18th annual Spring Outlaw Civil Wars will also feature competition in Outlaw 10.5, Outlaw X275, Street Race, Real Street 275, the Pro Tree Doorslammers, Footbrake, 6.0 Index, 7.0 Index, and Open Comp, along with a car show on the grounds. So whether you’re a racer or a snow-logged fan, this is an event you won’t want to miss.

Dean Marinis is the defending winner of the spring race in X275, with his final round defeat of Barry Mitchell on a holeshot, 4.81 to 4.79.  Bob Kurgan was the winner in X275 at the most recent Holcomb Motorsports event at Rockingham, the Fall Outlaw Civil Wars, as he also downed Mitchell in the final.
