As a very popular sports car, the Ford Mustang is inevitably involved in a number of accidents. Call it attrition, call it unsafe speed, but it is inevitable that far too many Mustangs will one day end up in the scrap heap, the victim of awful drivers and all too often, too much speed. And while there are no statistics tracking how many people American muscle cars have been involved in fatal accidents, we’re sure the Ford Mustang claims its fair share of life-ending incidents.
But car safety has improved dramatically over the years, to the point where people can walk away from accidents that once would have been fatal. It may seem hard to believe, but both of the people riding in this New Edge Mustang survived with only minor injuries reports San Diego News 10.
The details on the accident are light, but according to the driver and owner Jaun Pedro Talavera, he just remembers the “truck stopping, getting closer to it and turning the wheel as quick as [he] could.” The impact from the collision lifted the Mustang off the road and according to the passenger, the scaffolding from either the guard rail or the truck came within an inch of his eye.
As you can tell from the picture, the roof of this poor Mustang is nearly sheared off, and both driver and passenger are lucky to have survived with just minor injuries. They have their Mustang to thank for that, more than anything. Alas, like so many Mustangs before it, this poor pony car is now destined for the scrapyard. But it did its duty, and hopefully Mr. Talavera has learned an important less about paying attention when you drive.
