If you are like us, you really wanted to buy a new Shelby GT350 when these cars went into production late in the 2015 model year. Of course, Ford only built a small run of ’15 Shelbys and willing buyers immediately scooped them up. Apparently, some of those buyers were prospectors, as a rare 2015 Shelby GT350 is about to hit the block at Mecum Auctions in Dallas, Texas, this weekend.

Notable for its 8,250-rpm redline and exotic flat-plane crankshaft, the Voodoo 5.2-liter engine is rated at 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque.

The black-on-black Shelby, number 128 of the 137 built, has been driven just 48 miles
“The black-on-black Shelby, number 128 of the 137 built, has been driven just 48 miles and is still wrapped in the factory plastic and labeling, including the window sticker,” Mecum says. “One of 50 equipped with the Technology Package, which supplied SYNC 3 communications and entertainment features, the car is also one of just four painted in Shadow Black with stripe delete.”

Sporting a Flat-Plane-Crank 5.2-liter engine that generates over 526 horsepower, the modern GT350 was built to carve corners and do it in style. This example features the Technology Package, which includes Magneride suspension, power seats, seven-speaker audio, Sync 3, dual-zone automatic temperature control, voice-activated navigation, a universal garage door opener and more.

This Shelby was also never dealer prepped, it still has all the protective plastic covers on the carpet, seats and steering wheel. Only 137 Shelby GT350 and GT350R models were built in the 2015 model year and this is number 128 of that run. (Photo Credit: Mecum Auctions)

“Announced as a 2016 model, the latest Shelby GT350 quickly initiated a mad-dash to Ford dealers—by both track enthusiasts and collectors—to secure their place in line for orders,” the Mecum listing explains. “But when Ford announced a limited run of 2015 models to commemorate the GT350’s 50th anniversary, the scramble intensified as buyers sought to acquire one of only 137 produced, 100 in standard GT350 configuration and 37 R-models.”

Mecum expects this car to sell in the low-six-figure range, which is well out of our budget. However, those who are so inclined can bid on this rare Shelby at the auction, which will be held from November 2-5 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas. If you can’t make it in person, the auction will also air on the NBC Sports Network.
