Engineering cars and test vehicles are nothing new to the automotive industry. In fact, most companies that specialize in some form of performance products make use of such “test mules” to develop and perfect their components. Mustang performance company Brenspeed is no different in this sense. Brenspeed refers to their test vehicles on a regular basis in their tech articles, videos and even when speaking to customers, but what’s the real scoop on these performance Mustangs? Well, now thanks to a recent release from the company, we can bring you some interesting details on the fleet of Brenspeed’s engineering Mustangs.

The oldest modern Mustang that Brenspeed makes use of is a 2006 GT convertible, nicknamed “Top-Less,” owned by Brenspeed engine builder Kent.

Fittingly, this Mustang is equipped with a Brenspeed B302 engine and now makes use of one of the company’s Saleen Supercharger Packages for the 3V Mustang to compete in NMRA and NMCA competitions.

With the release of the new Coyote 5.0L engines, Brenspeed has replaced many of their 3V test cars with newer models, so this Mustang gets quite the workout testing out (and beating up) one of Brenspeed’s crate engines on a daily basis while many of the company’s other Mustangs take on the challenge of perfecting Coyote components.

The next Mustang in the Brenspeed stable is the 2010 GT named “Gold Member” which is owned by sales representative Miles. This Mustang, which was initially intended to be a company car, ended up on a delivery delay, causing the company to have to purchase a car right off the lot rather than wait. But when the car arrived, Miles took a liking to it (yes, event to the gold paint) and it became part of the Brenspeed family anyway. Since Miles got the car, it has been equipped with a Brenspeed B326 engine, Roush turn-key supercharger package, Pypes 3V Mustang headers, a full BMR suspension system and the company’s Race Star Wheel Package with 10-inch rear wheels. With 4.10 gears, Miles races the car in NMRA events, recently running a 10.6-second quarter mile while still maintaining the car’s near 20mpg fuel economy.

Moving into the 5.0L Coyotes, Brenspeed has two 2011 company Mustangs used for various product tests. One is currently being used to test the company’s Roush 650R (650hp) supercharger package. With a full roll cage and manual transmission, this Mustang is fully track ready and recently ran some high 10-second quarter mile passes with factory 3.55 rearend gears and a fuel economy of over 20mpg.

The car was also recently used to test some Whiteline Performance Suspension lower control arms, which it did quite gracefully.

The other 2011 Brenspeed Mustang is the Saleen S302DR that the company used for tons of camshaft development and raced extensively last year. In it’s short term with Brenspeed, this Mustang has also served as a torque converter, prototype supercharger, and Pypes header test car. Currently, the car is equipped with a JLT air intake and tuner package sold by Brenspeed.

Leading the way in Edelbrock E-Force Supercharger package development is Brenspeed’s 2012 GT 5.0 Mustang. Used exclusively to develop and test many stages of the Edelbrock turn-key supercharger packages, this Mustang has seen a whole gamut of Edelbrock components in it’s day.

Last but certainly not least is Brenspeed’s 2013 Roush Mustang nicknamed 4 Leaf (pictured at top of the page). This car was brought on as a test vehicle for Roush Supercharger development for Mustangs with automatic transmissions. It’s duties include suspension testing and supercharger calibration with various modifications, from different pulley sizes to fuel system changes.

In order to handle all of its testing, the 2013 is equipped with an FRPP crate engine, Kooks headers, full BMR suspension system and a Roush Supercharger. While the Mustang is fully track legal and recently ran a few 10.6-second quarter mile passes, it still maintains all its factory options. With extensive testing and development still planned with this Mustang, you can expect to see a lot of this car in the future.

Brenspeed brings a whole slew of performance products and components to Mustang enthusiasts and without test vehicles, this wouldn’t be possible.
