Bill Tumas, Product Specialist from CJ Pony parts, put it best, “if you don’t personally know someone with Multiple Sclerosis, I guarantee you have a friend who does.” If unfamiliar with MS, it is an inflammatory disease caused by damaged insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The damage disrupts communication within the nervous system causing a multitude of signs and symptoms from physical to mental. As of right now, there is no cure and millions of people fight it every single minute of every single day.
Rally North America is a multi-day trip/scavenger hunt that raises money for charity, this year the charity is Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis. During the rally, CJ Pony Parts maintains a pretty good record winning 3 of the last 4 events. This year is the 5th-annual rally with 5 whole days, instead of the usual 3, going from Martinsburg, West Virginia to Pueblo, Colorado. However, Bill is going the extra mile(s) starting his trek in Ocean City, MD and ending on the opposite coast in San Francisco, CA. Bill is taking the trek in his Grabber Blue 2011 Mustang. Participation means abiding by local laws during the 500-600 mile scavenger hunt complete with clues and checkpoints. Getting tagged with a ticket or law infraction means automatic event disqualification.
“I have drag raced, road raced, did the car show thing. These Rallies by far are the most rewarding. Not only do you get the hit the road with 80 teams of fellow gearheads, you do it for a great cause. Last year was Camp Sunshine, we actually went to Camp Sunshine during the rally and seeing the smiles on the kids faces we were helping was life changing. This year benefits the Accelerated Cure for MS, one of the few charities whose 100% focus is looking for a cure,” Bill tells us.
Tumas became a part of RNA in 2010 when CJ sponsored a Route 66 rally, a bucket list item for many Mustang owners. Each year, the RNA raises money for a different charity and CJ Pony Parts has raised thousands of dollars overall. The brainchildren behind this operation are both Tony and Scott. This year, the goal of $5,000 has been reached to find a cure for MS, and donations are still being accepted so please visit here to see how you can help!
