The 2010 model year overhaul of the Ford Taurus was a much-needed improvement to the Blue Oval’s most famous sedan. Many auto industry historians agree that the Taurus helped save Ford in the 1980’s, but by the turn of the millennium that car was all but irrelevant. After ditching the Taurus in favor of the Five Hundred, Ford quickly remedied the situation after just a few years, bringing back the Taurus name and debuting a whole new model in 2010. So far, so good; the Taurus has proven a strong seller…but what about the next generation?
The Taurus just got a minor refresh last year, but designers are already speculating what direction the next-gen Taurus will take. Over at Carscoop they’ve featured the work of Tyler Bame, a 22-year old design student who penned this what he thinks the next Taurus might look like.
The 2010 Taurus model was the first to embrace Ford’s new Kinetic design language, showcasing the look for all future Fords. Bame did not stray too far from Ford’s own design language, though he beefed the looks up and made it look much more muscular. If you ask us, the design looks a bit like Ford’s own Interceptor sedan concept from a few years ago.
By Tyler’s own admission, he started out drawing an Audi, but what he wound up designing was a Audi-fighting Taurus. It’s certainly a sign of the direction Ford hopes to take its brand, as the 365 horsepower Taurus SHO now costs as much, if not more than, many Audis and other European luxury cars. We wouldn’t mind seeing Tyler’s Taurus on dealership lots…would you?
