Mustang forums are great in the fact that they generate a whole Mustang community for owners to get together online and share this awesome common interest of ours. The discussions are endless, Mustang-related or not, and you tend to meet some great people with loads of car knowledge. Within these communities, it’s not uncommon for some discussions to spiral out of control, end up getting shut down or cleaned up due to escalated disagreements.
We came across one thread on the Mustang Source with a very good question, though: Do V8 owners look down on V6 owners? While the original poster says that the discussion is not a V8 versus V6 bash thread, but a general curiosity of what GT owners think of their V6 counterparts. Some of the responses are interesting.
In this thread one member admits to seeing other nice looking Mustangs on the road but dismissing it once the engine turns out to have two less cylinders, not giving it another glance. Others tend to agree with his statement, and some say a Mustang is a Mustang, respect them all including the Foxy four cylinder. Someone else replies that their own grandmother would give them grief for buying a V6 Mustang. Damn, granny.
Most V8 owners buy their cars for performance, build it up, and race them, and many own them just to say that they have one and leave it stock. There really is no need to look down on a car that costs less to insure and maintain, with reasonable gas mileage while still being easily modifiable. Most of the V6 Mustangs are daily drivers with longer commutes, and it only makes sense to not spend as much in gas. A lot of V8 owners have a second car to get them from point A to point B, and bust out the V8 for special occasions. There’s nothing wrong with that, either.
One can see where the V8 owners feel that the V6 is inferior, not making as much horsepower, making it a bit harder to get that extra performance unless you drop a pretty penny. That’s when most would say “You should have bought a GT”. But, who wouldn’t respect a tastefully done and fast V6 and the hard work put into it?
Even the brand new V6 Mustangs are packin’ more performance than old GTs with 305 horses while getting over 30+ miles per gallon. That’s not something to look down on. Yes, the GT gets 100 more horsepower stock and can reach great lengths in regards to performance, that’s no question. Honestly, don’t take it personally, most likely they’re just stating their opinion and judging the engine and not you as a person. Whether GT owner or V6 owner, you’re probably proud of your ride, so brush the negative comments off that shoulder and keep truckin’ along.
So, tell us, what do you think?
