As reported by our good buddy Mike Galimi over on NMRA Digital earlier this week, longtime series competitor Dwayne James is in the midst of resurrecting the iconic 2001 Ford Mustang GT that carried Hellion Power Systems teammate John Urist to three of his Super Street Outlaw titles for a run at the “10-Inch Tire Freak Show” while his Pro Outlaw 10.5 mount continues to undergo an off season makeover that’s spilled into the racing season.
In an effort to give 10.5 class champ Mike Murillo, Tim Essick, and the rest of the category a run for their money, James picked up a new Ford Pro Stock Hemi prepped by the gang at Roush-Yates Engines to pair up with a set of 88mm turbos. But that’s not the news of the hour.
The legendary ’01, built by Mike Duffy Race Cars and known affectionately as “Big Red”, has been pulled from mothballs at the Hellion shop in Albuquerque, N.M. and stuffed with the 417-inch, Edelbrock SC-1-headed powerplant from the Pro Outlaw 10.5 mount and mated with a class-legal 123mm ProCharger. Per the report, James plans to have the car out for the upcoming Milan, Mich. event on June 15-16.
And just like that, it’s a two-headed assault on the Super Street Outlaw category all over again.
