The Boss 302 is a beast right out of the factory on the road course. The car is set up for turning more than it is for a straight line performance, but that doesn’t mean you can’t drag the wheels off the 2012 Boss 302. I know when I first ordered my Boss, the thing that came to my mind was bolting a supercharger on the engine since it has forged internals. After taking my car to the road course though, I quickly changed my mind.
I want the car to stay naturally-aspirated because I don’t want the extra weight or the heat soak issues that blown cars have to deal with on the track. That means that perhaps the best way to get more go for the quarter mile trips on the Boss 302 is to add nitrous oxide. The cool part about nitrous is that the new hardware for the plumbing will add a negligible amount of weight to the car when the bottle is removed.
Johnny Lightning has set his house Boss 302 up with some nitrous and put the car on the dyno for a tune and power readings. The car on a 100 shot of N2O put down 480 RWHP and 501 RWTQ. A 125 shot gave the Boss 302 507 WHP and 565 WTQ. With some sticky tires, that Boss 302 would be a demon on the quarter mile. The cool part is looking under the hood, where Johnny did a stealth install and you can barely tell the car is modded.
