Carroll Shelby may be the Godfather of classic Mustang performance, but the era known as the ‘80’s belonged to Steve Saleen and his awesome collection of Fox-body Mustangs. Saleen production peaked in the 90’s, and many of the Mustangs you see today with the Saleen name are either hatchbacks, or replicas. But Saleen did make a handful of modified coupes, or notchbacks, though these cars literally number in the single digits. In other words, they don’t go up for sale every day.
So when we caught wind of a one-of-three (or four) 1991 Saleen notchback up on eBay, we just had to let you all in on this awesome auction.
While Saleens may be an almost common occurrence at many car shows these days, they were once a relative rarity in the motoring world. But production for certain early Saleens numbers in the 3’s or 4’s, including this 1991 notchback, which amazingly has almost 62,000 miles. That’s damn impressive for such a rare car, even 20 years after its been built; many of these vehicles never even break into the four digits. And yet this car is clean. Like, really clean.
It hardly looks driven if you ask us. Like most Mustangs though, this one has had a few aftermarket modifications, including high-flow cats, drilled and slotted rotors, and a 10-disc CD player mounted in the trunk. Luckily, the owner recognized the importance of this car, and hung on to all the original parts (including the original window sticker.) We don’t know what the reserve price is, but this may be one of those rare Fox-body Mustangs that are well worth a ridiculous asking price. Do you agree, or is this just another Fox to you?
