In 1979, Ford re-introduced the world to the Mustang with the all-new Fox-body platform. Today, Fox-body Mustangs are among the most popular and modified sports cars in America. Everybody knows somebody with a Fox-body Mustang, and it is the Fox-body Mustang that made the “5.0” moniker synonymous with performance.
So when Ford reintroduced the 5.0 “Coyote” engine for the 2011 Mustang, you knew it wouldn’t take long for Fox-Coyote swaps to start popping up all over the place.
And pop up they have, as today’s eBay Find of the Day takes a first-year Fox-body Mustang and drops a Coyote 5.0 under the hood. The lightweight Fox, with the brutal torque of the Coyote, means lots and lots of fun. For the right price, this one can be yours.
The “four-eyed” Mustangs as they’re known had to make due with a series of under performing V8 and V6 engines. The 5.0 Coyote, with up to 420 horsepower and 390 ft-lbs of torque, is a big, big improvement. Backing the Coyote is a classic-but-built C4 automatic transmission.
While the paint is far from perfect, we love the matte black look and the custom dashboard. We also love the push button start feature, something far from the minds of customers in 1979. The asking price of $12,500 is damn reasonable considering the long list of parts this car comes with…though we think a manual transmission swapped is called for. Can you see yourself behind the wheel of this black beauty?
