Ford sold millions of first and second generation Mustangs, and quite a few of them left dealerships not with huge V8’s, but base inline-six engines. Quite a few of these cars wound up in the crusher, but many are still out there today, living second lives as cheap muscle cars or the base for custom projects, sans the guilt of ruining a V8 pony car.
So at the very least, today’s eBay Find of the Day did not take another genuine muscle car off the road. But this completely custom Mustang is an unfinished project that might be a bit too funky for even the most open-minded Mustang fan.
Jalopnik found this gem, and it’s just too odd to overlook. This former Mustang coupe is not something of a futuristic station wagon. It would not have been entirely out of place on a rotating platform at some 60’s car show. But in 2012, it looks a little out of place with a puckered rear end that reminds us of the old-school Cylons from Battlestar Galatica. The headlights look like Gatling guns, though the flared fenders and shaved doors do show some level of craftsmanship and skill. But the cyclops gauge cluster is just…weird.
Unfortunately, whoever ponies up $10,000 for this custom ride has a lot of work ahead of them. The front frame rail needs to be fixed, the wiring looks like a mess, the custom hatch needs a custom pane of glass, and as we already alluded to, this project is powered by a fresh-looking inline-six. With some time, effort, and cash, you could have a very unique Mustang.
Is this project Mustang worth taking on, or is it too far gone for your tastes?
