When Ford debuted the newest generation of Mustangs for the 2005 model year, many people were taken with the whole “retro” look that pervaded much of this brand new pony car. Hundreds of thousands of these Mustangs were sold between 2005 and 2009, which also saw the rebirth of many classic Mustang icons, like the Shelby GT500 and Cobra Jet drag car. Following in the wake of these modern classics is the usual crowd of flatterers and imitators who can’t afford the real thing…but try to get as close as they can anyway.
Without a doubt, this 2007 Ford Mustang “Cobra Jet” on eBay is an imitator, as far from an authentic CJ as a Mustang can be. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a cool car in its own right…as long as you really, really like flames.
What you see before is a 2007 Mustang GT “Cobra Jet,” a full year before actually pulled the drawstrings off of its own Cobra Jet program. This car, no true CJ, was then worked over from top to bottom in an attempt to become a rival, rather than an imitation, of a real CJ. This included the addition of a supercharger to the 4.6 liter V8, a full header and exhaust system, as well as numerous suspension upgrades to the brakes, sway bars, and coil over shocks.
And then there is the paint job, which is without a doubt the defining characteristic of this “hot” Mustang. With just 660 miles on the odometer, this beast is basically brand new, and is sure to attract a lot of attention. But let us ask you, is this flaming paint job and a few comparatively mild upgrades worth the $73,500 Buy It Now Price? Or is this one Mustang too hot to buy?
