Hot rodding is an American tradition that dates back to the first automobiles, and its progress has been cataloged in the many magazines that follow this tradition. But perhaps it is the cars themselves, sometimes more works of art than actual automobiles, that provide the best idea of how hot rodding has evolved.
One of the cornerstones of the hot rodding movement, Popular Hot Rodding, has come up with some pretty spiffy cars over the years. Project Streetfighter, their ‘66 Mustang with a 600 horsepower 427 V8, may be one of their best projects ever…and it is now for sale on eBay.
Project Streetfighter was the brainchild of former Popular Hot Rodding Editor Liz Miles, who helped build it over two years and 23 issues. With a 600 horsepower 427 V8, a 5-speed manual transmission, and a Total Control Racing suspension package, this Mustang was no trailer queen. It was put together with some top notch parts, and the only stock parts left are the body panel (minus the hood), glass, and window mechanisms (what, no power windows?)
It’s definitely a unique Mustang, one we wouldn’t mind getting behind the wheel of. The asking price of $80,000 seems a bit steep, but then again, it’s one of the best-documented Mustang builds ever, and we bet it goes like all hell. Would you drop 80 large on this 600 horsepower ‘66?
