eBay Find of the Day: Unrestored ‘66 Ford Galaxie Survivor

A “survivor” is a classic car that has somehow managed to make it through the intervening decades without ever undergoing a restoration, paint job, or major repairs. As you can imagine, such cars are pretty rare, even among the less desirable “second class” of muscle cars that have neither the following nor the fame of cars like the Mustang, Camaro, and Charger. But every so often a rare “second class” survivor pops up and draws some pretty impressive bids on the auction block.

Take this 1966 Ford Galaxie R-Code, found over on eBay. With a 425 horsepower 427 V8 under the hood, it packed plenty of punch, if not the flair and style of other muscle cars. And most importantly, it is a true survivor, one of just a handful of these R-Code Galaxies ever built.

The Ford Galaxie is a true muscle car, and while it does enjoy a faithful following, it is not nearly as popular as say, the Ford Mustang. But the Galaxie could be built into a true sleeper by opting for the R-Code 427 V8 engine. There is nothing on the outside except a few small badges to hint at what is under the hood of this yellow-and-white Galaxie.

According to the seller, it is one of just 9 registered 427 Galaxies, and has just over 23,000 miles on the odometer. It is a truly immaculate car from front to back, looking almost as though it just drove off the showroom floor. Best of all, it’s a four-speed manual. Once the bidding came to an end, this Galaxie sold for just $58,000…a bargain for a 427 Ford survivor if you ask us.
