When’s the last time you saw an R-Code Galaxie 500 on the road? How about at a car show, or at the drag strip? The chances of seeing one of these recherché beauties anywhere is unlikely. According to the 427 Galaxie Registry, only 4,895 1963 1/2 R-Code (and Q-Code) examples were ever produced. Fortunately, the opportunity to own one of these examples has become available thanks to this choice find on eBay.
According to the original ad, this particular R-Code Galaxie came from a private collection, and has only clocked 1,500 miles since undergoing a full restoration. Speaking of restorations, here’s what we believe is puzzling. Allegedly, all 1963 1/2 R-Code Galaxies came finished in Corinthian White and left the factory with a red vinyl interior. This Galaxie, however, has a black interior…

While the asking price is about on par with what we’ve seen these cars auction for, it is a bit on the lower side (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing!). Without a doubt, it’s definitely one of the least expensive R-Code variants of any Blue Oval car to get into.
Surely it isn’t as light as an R-Code Fairlane, but with more than 425 horsepower and a pair of Holley four-barrel carburetors, there’s no doubting this heavy lead-sled will rocket down the quarter-mile.
