In 2002, fabricator, bike, and car builder, Jesee James was still a new name to general public. That all changed when James was given his own television show, Monster Garage, which tasked Jesse and a crew of builders with transforming a car into a dual-purpose contraption. Their very first project? Turn a Fox-body Mustang into a lawn mower of epic proportions.
They had to accomplish that task using just $3,000 and lots of ingenuity. For fans of James, Monster Garage, or just awesome Mustangs, your chance to own a piece of TV car history is now up on eBay. Does this grass-cutting muscle machine have a place in your own Monster Garage?
Called “Switchblade” and dubbed the “world’s fastest lawnmower,” James and crew sourced a series of lawn-cutting implements to attach to this droptop Fox-body. While putting a mowing deck at the back of the Mustang makes plenty of sense, attaching motorized clippers to the bottoms of the doors for extra cutting capacity really took the project to the next level.
The zaney Monster Garage show left us asking questions every week, like, who turns a Mustang GT into a lawn mower, and then uses it to race an actual lawn-cutting tractor? It set the precedent for future Monster Garage episodes, helping this become at least for a short while one of the best-loved automotive series on television. Alas, the show lasted just four seasons before being cancelled. But for the right fan, this collectible piece of television car customization history might be just what your collection needs.
