Who doesn’t love a good wheel stand? It is a fairly common occurrence if you have ever been to the drag strip before. Though a street car that is barely a few months old on the bumper? Yeah, now we’re talkin’.
The Evolution Performance Mustang is no stranger here. We have followed its accomplishments from 11s to 9s in the quarter mile.
Feeling that the stock 5.0 was just about tapped out for what it would reliably make for power, Fred and the rest of the Evolution Performance crew yanked the engine out to make way for an upgraded short block. Since they were ditching the nitrous kit for a F-1C ProCharger, a set of low compression pistons and beefier rods were in order. Outside that, most of the engine remains relatively stock. They had previously ran a best quarter mile time of a 9.11 in testing with their new combination.
With 8s on their mind, they made the trek to the NMRA Finals in Bowling Green, KY this last weekend to run the Modular Muscle category. The Evo Performance crew were battling some issues, including this massive wheel stand we caught on camera. The Mustang went straight up on the bumper and while it was pointed to the wall, the driver jumped on the brakes to bring the car crashing back down to earth. I guess it was a quick decision that had to be made: twisted up front suspension and oil pan or smash up the front corner of the car?
While they did manage to run another 9.10 this last weekend at Bowling Green, it still fell short of its 8-second pass…though we are sure it will see that milestone soon enough. Stay tuned because we will have a complete car feature coming up shortly on it.
