There’s no question that the unveiling of the 2017 Ford GT stole the crowd’s attention at the North American International Auto Show a couple of weeks ago with its sharp new design and V6 EcoBoost power.
We know that Ford has plans to race the GT. As of right now, it’s all a matter of when they’ll race the car. 2016 will mark the 50th anniversary of Ford’s 1-2-3 finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, making it a perfect time to unleash the GT into its natural habitat. There is also speculation about Chip Ganassi running the program for the new GT, so what will the livery look like?

We can’t say as of right now, but we did come across these really good renderings of how the car would look with Gulf Oil and Martini livery. We have to say that this rendering from YasidDESIGN looks to be the most realistic so far. With the modern centerlock magnesium wheels, widened front fenders, added aero bits, and other small details, it looks as if it could go racing right this second. Although Martini is known for sponsoring Porsche and Lancia during its golden days, it looks awesome on the new Ford GT.

YasidDESIGN is also responsible for this rendering of the Ford GT in historic Gulf Oil livery. As you can see in this rendering, the car is equipped with iconic knock-off wheels and a more modern take on the classic Gulf Oil livery design.

The next rendering is from Jonsibal and it shows the GT in an earlier style of Gulf Oil livery where the orange wraps around the nose. His rendering also shows the GT with the old school knock-off wheels. However, we don’t see any motorsport touches like GT wings, aerodynamic touches, or a roll cage, but the orange GT in the background does seem to have some canards (dive planes) attatched to the front bumper.
Yes, these are just renderings, and being that the GT was unveiled with no set-in-stone plans to race this year, we’re thinking that Ford is just going to watch us squirm as they dangle little bits of information above our heads. It’s surprising enough that they kept the new GT under wraps pretty much up until a week before its debut.
