The new generation factory-produced Ford Mustang Cobra Jets, which began production in 2008 and were followed up by a 2010 and 2012 model year racer with a range of upgrades between each model, continues to improve with each new iteration, and the upcoming 2013 version of the vaunted class racing machine stands to be the best one yet.
The 2013 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet was unveiled by Ford Racing representatives at the Performance Racing Industry trade show in Orlando and is slated to go into production beginning in May. The new 2013 version will offer, for the first time in the Cobra Jet, the already legendary 5.0L”Coyote” powerplant based on that found in the 2011-13 Ford Mustang GT that’s shown to be a 10-second killer with little more than your basic bolt-on modifications.

The engine options in the 2013 Cobra Jet will include a 5.0L Ti-VCT naturally-aspirated powerplant featuring a unique Cobra Jet induction system (intake and throttle body), with CNC ported cylinder heads, high lift camshafts, and a low-drag accessory drive. For Super Stock competition, customers will be afforded a 5.0L powerplant with a Ford Racing/Whipple 10-rib 2.9L supercharger, CNC port matched lower intake manifold and cylinder heads.
The team at Ford Racing delivered us a sneak peak at this brand new pair of engine offerings, which are being shipped to the Auto Alliance International assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, where they will be part of what’s known as “rabbit builds” to confirm parts and processes before the other 48 of the allotted 50 Cobra Jets go into production in May.
